RELEASED: JANUARY 2008 After researching the UK underground pipes market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007: UK demand for underground pipes is believed to have increased by a moderate 2% to £636.1 million at MSP in 2007, fully offsetting the marginal decline recorded in the previous year. Growth in the sector has been buoyed by increased construction activity together with increased civil engineering output during the latter year of the review period. Prior to this, sales of underground pipes declined by 5% and 3% in 2003 and 2004 respectively, reflecting reductions in civil engineering output in the potable water and sewerage sectors. MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012: UK demand for underground pipes is expected to increase throughout the forecast period, with annual growth rates increasing from 2% in 2008 to 3% during the remaining four years. Overall real term growth of 13% is anticipated to take the underground pipes market to £737.6 million in 2012 (at 2007 prices). Continued growth is a partial reflection of increased construction and repair & maintenance activity. Moreover, increased demand for civil engineering is likely to further demand for underground pipes.
