RELEASED: JANUARY 2008 After researching the UK tubes & pipes market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007: The market for tubes and pipes is believed to have increased by 7% to £3164.1 million in 2007. Growth was recorded in each year between 2004 and 2006, with annual levels peaking at 16% in 2004. This is in contrast to a 2% decline recorded in 2003. Nonetheless an overall increase of 31% is estimated compared with the beginning of the review period, largely reflecting growth in construction and repair & maintenance activity during this period. Furthermore, growth in the sewerage sector is likely to have boosted demand for tubes and pipes in 2007. However, stronger market growth is believed to have been restricted by reduced demand in civil engineering, notably in the water, gas and road end-use sectors in recent years. MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012: The UK market for tubes and pipes is expected to increase during each year of the forecast period, with annual levels of real term growth fluctuating between 2% and 3%. In 2012, sales are expected to reach £3583.2 million at 2007 prices, representing real term growth of 2% in the year and of 13% compared with 2007. This largely reflects the expected continued growth in construction and repair & maintenance activity. Furthermore, increased civil engineering output is also likely to have a positive impact on the market.
