UK ROOFING MATERIALS & CONTRACTING MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK roof materials & contracting market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

In 2007 the UK market for roofing material coverings is believed to have increased by 6% to 139 million m², consolidating the trend for growth demonstrated between 2003 and 2006. Overall demand is believed to have increased by 23% during the five year review period. Stronger annual growth of 6% was recorded in the latter three years of the review period, despite the rising share commanded by flats and apartments in the residential construction sector.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

The UK market for roofing material coverings is projected to increase year-on-year throughout the forecast period, reaching a peak of 168.3 million m2 in 2012. Annual growth of between 3% and 5% is forecast throughout the period under review, culminating in overall real term growth of 21% between 2007 and 2012. Growth is believed to be partially hindered by a slowing economy and falling property prices, reducing the amount of capital invested in the renovation and construction of proprieties. Nonetheless in the short term MBD believe growth will be fuelled by public sector commitment to developing affordable housing and investment in sectors such as health and education, which is being boosted by increased private sector involvement. Furthermore the supply shortage within the UK housing market is anticipated to continue to stimulate demand and a continuing shift in the product mix of new builds schemes in favour of detached, semi detached and terraced houses, as opposed to flats and apartments, is projected to positively effect volume growth for roofing within the residential new build sector.
