UK REFRACTORY PRODUCTS MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK refractory products market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

MBD believe the value of the UK market for refractory products declined marginally to £379.3 million in 2007. Except for a 7% increase in 2003, sales declined throughout the review period, culminating in an overall decline of 6% between 2003 and 2007. MBD believe the fall in sales reflects a number of factors, including increases in raw material prices and technological developments which have increased the durability of refractories. Restricted levels of capital expenditure in a number of enduse industries have also exerted a downward pressure on the refractory products market.

MARKET FORECAST 2007-2011:

The UK market for refractory products is anticipated to decline in real terms during much of the forecast period with the exception of a 1% increase in 2010. Annual levels of decline are expected to remain relatively moderate at between 1% and 2%. Overall, the value of the market is projected to contract by 4% in real terms between 2007 and 2012.
