RELEASED: JUNE 2005 After researching the UK public expenditure on housing development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2002-2004: Total managed expenditure on housing has been increased by 44% in real terms during the review period between 2000 and 2004 to £5.9 billion in the latter year. Strong real term growth has been reported for a number of years including a significant 22% in 2001, 16% in 2002 and 18% during 2004. The share of housing TME of GDP has been fairly consistent throughout the majority of the review period accounting for 0.5% of total GDP. In 2000 however, the importance of housing in real terms accounted for 0.4% of GDP. MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009: TME on housing (comprising of current and capital expenditure on housing) is forecast to peak in 2005 £7.3 billion. However, expenditure thereafter is projected to moderate in 2006 to £3 billion, representing an anticipated decline of 59%. However, investment on housing services is expected to increase albeit moderately in each of the remaining years of the forecast period to £3.6 billion in 2009. The proportional importance of TME on housing of total TME on services is expected to decline from 1.6% in 2005 to just 1.0% in 2006. A level which is expected to be maintained throughout the forecast period. NOTE TO EDITORS: Market & Business Development Ltd specialises in business to business market research.
