RELEASED: JUNE 2005 After researching the UK public expenditure on environmental services development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2002-2004: Total managed expenditure on environmental services increased by 28% during the review period to some £7.7 billion. Growth in investment is believed to have increased by 8% in 2004, representing the strongest rate of growth throughout the period between 2000 and 2004. However, the share of environmental services of the total TME on services is believed to have remained stagnant at 1.8%. This is despite a growing concern over environmental issues, often prompted by international agreements and regulation, combined with increasing importance attached to environmental issues by the voting public. MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009: Increases of between 5% and 13% are expected to occur in the value of TME on environmental services during the forecast period, indicating stronger year-on-year increases through most of the forecast period, than those seen in the late 1990s. TME on environmental services is forecast to be valued at some £10.7 billion by 2009. As such, spending on the environment is forecast to account for a gradually increasing share of public spending, albeit remaining at a relatively modest level.
