UK PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION MATERIALS MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

In 2007, demand for passive fire protection materials is believed to have increased by 11% to a five year peak of £1330.7 million. This is equivalent to strong cumulative growth of 41% in comparison with 2003, following year-on-year growth throughout the five year review period. The strong market development predominately reflects the buoyant construction market. Furthermore, towards the end of the review period, legislative changes concerning fire safety and protection came into force, providing a further boost to the market.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

MBD forecast the UK market for passive fire protection materials to increase year-on-year between 2008 and 2012, with annual real term growth levels fluctuating between 4% and 6%. By 2012 the value of the market is anticipated to reach a peak of £1664 million (at 2007 prices), representing real term growth of 25%.

Demand is expected to be generated by legislative changes concerning fire safety in dwellings and non dwellings. Moreover the continued buoyancy anticipated in the construction market will also provide a positive impetus for the passive fire protection materials market. Although legislative changes will spur on demand for passive fire protection materials, it is believed that the active fire protection sector may benefit more from these changes, as active fire protection systems (in particular the installation of sprinklers instead of second fire exit) are often a more attractive economic alternative. Intense price competition is expected to remain a feature of many sectors in the passive fire protection materials market.
