UK PAPER MERCHANTING MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK paper merchanting market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004:

The volume of paper and board sold through paper merchants is estimated to have declined by 5% during 2004 to a level of 3.25 million tonnes, partially negating strong annual growth of 20% recorded in both 2002 and 2003. Overall, demand is believed to have increased by 25% between 2000 and 2004 despite declines recorded at the start of the review period.

MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009:

The volume of paper and board sold through paper merchants is expected to increase moderately for the majority of the forecast period, highlighting a degree of over-supply in many sectors of the market. Between 2004 and 2009 MBD expect demand to increase by 15% in real terms, with particularly strong growth of 8% anticipated during 2005.
