UK PAPER & BOARD PACKAGING MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK paper & board packaging market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2001-2005:

UK demand for paper and board packaging is believed to have accounted for a reduced 41% of the total UK packaging market during 2005, compared with a share of 42% during the previous year. Sales within the industry are believed to have declined by 4% in 2005 to a review period low of £3539 million, continuing the trend for decline recorded throughout the majority of the review period. Between 2001 and 2005 MBD believe demand declined by 9% overall in value terms.

MARKET FORECAST 2006-2010:

The UK market for paper and board packaging is expected to increase marginally throughout the five year forecast period up to 2010. Annual growth is expected to culminate in an overall increase of 3% in value terms between 2005 and 2010, with demand reaching an estimated level of £3652.9 million (at 2005 prices) during the latter year. This anticipated rate of market growth may understate the possible impact of further penetration in other packaging areas, such as canned foods.
