UK OFFICE EQUIPMENT LEASING MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK office equipment leasing market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004:

Since 2001, the UK market for office and computer equipment leasing declined year-on-year in value terms. There has been strong volume demand between 2000 and 2004, with significant growth evident in the services sector, where expenditure on office and computer equipment is typically at its highest. Furthermore, the technological developments in equipment reduced the replacement cycle, thereby stimulating demand. In addition, the fear of asset obsolescence favoured leasing as an asset acquisition option over outright ownership.

MBD believe that the value of the UK market for office and computer equipment leasing declined by a further 2% in 2004 to £3804 million. However, the pace of decline in value terms has been arrested to some extent, largely as a result of the relative buoyancy of equipment sales. Margins in the leasing sector remained tight due to oversupply, and asset prices continued to decline in the electronics sector.

MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009:

MBD believe that the market will decline by 8% between 2004 and 2009, taking the market to £3489 million in 2009, thus partly reflecting the impact of the economic cycle, although the service sector is likely to be less adversely affected than the manufacturing sector.
