After researching the UK non-ferrous castings market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004:
In 2000 and 2001 sales of non-ferrous castings contracted by 2% and 3% respectively to a review period low of 190 669 tonnes. This trend was reversed in 2002 however when a 7% increase in demand took the value of the market to 204 893 tonnes and this was consolidated by growth of 3% in 2003 to 211 908 tonnes. Furthermore, during the current year MBD believe that sales of non-ferrous castings will reach 218 525 tonnes, representing an increase in the year of 3% and an overall increase of 12% compared with 2000.
MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009:
MBD anticipate the market to increase moderately in each year between 2005 and 2009, culminating in overall real growth of 5% and taking the market for non-ferrous castings to almost 233 000 tonnes in 2009.
The key features of demand growth will be the increased utilisation of aluminium, and in the longer term magnesium, particularly in the important transportation and engineering sectors
