UK METAL RECYCLING MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK metal recycling market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

The UK metal recycling market demonstrated growth in value terms throughout the five year review period up to 2007. In 2006, sales increased by an estimated 8% which is projected to be followed by further nominal growth of 6% during the current year, taking the value of the market to £1823.7 million. This is in contrast to more moderate increase of between 1% and 4% recorded during the early part of the review period. The stronger market development during the second half of the review period is believed to be a reflection of a rise metal trading prices.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

The UK market for metal recycling is expected to increase in real terms during each year of the five year forecast period up to 2012, although annual growth levels are expected to remain relatively moderate between 1% and 3% in real terms. In 2012, the UK market for metal recycling is anticipated to reach some £2016 million at 2007 prices, equivalent to an overall increase of 11% in real terms compared with the current year. Growth is expected to be driven by increased environmental awareness and legislative pressure from the ELV Directive as well as the WEEE Directive. Furthermore, the UK economy is expected to continue to demonstrate a positive development, providing an impetus for growth in the metal recycling market.
