UK INDEPENDENT TELEVISION MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK independent television market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2001-2005:

The main drivers of independent TV revenue is derived from advertising and subscription activities, accounting for approximately 70% of total TV industry revenue. The rate of growth has varied, reflecting the problems in generating advertising revenue due to the economic cycle and increasing demands on corporate promotional spending. For many years as profitability has pressured companies in reducing spending on marketing activities. However, growth was strongest in 2003 and 2004 at 8% and 9% respectively. A further nominal increase of 1% is estimated to take the value of the independent tv market to a peak level of £7.2 billion in 2005. Overall, an increase of 22% is estimated compared with 2001.

MARKET FORECAST 2006-2010:

Revenues for independent television are forecast to record moderate growth over the majority of the forecast period, reflecting a greater stability of the sector. Overall the value of the independent tv sector is projected to increase by 4% in real terms in comparison with 2005. By the end of 2010 total revenue generated from advertising and subscription is anticipated to reach £7.5 billion at 2005 prices.
