UK INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK Independent Television Production production market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004:

The value of the UK Independent Television Production production has been increased throughout the review period, rising to £1.4 billion in 2004. The value of the production sector is believed to have been increased by 19% in nominal terms during 2004. Overall growth of almost 50% is estimated.

MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009:

By 2009, the UK Independent Television Production production is forecast to reach £1461 million at 2004 prices. Growth in real terms is expected to be recorded in each year of the forecast period. However, MBD forecast a slowing in the rate of market growth towards the latter part of the period. Demand for independently produced programmes will continue to rise as the remit for broadcasters to outsource is likely to increase from the current 25% in the future. Broadcasters are inhibited by advertising revenues and this has proved difficult to sustain in recent years. There is evidence of an upturn in 2004 and this is likely to assist investment, although there has been little direct link between advertising expenditure and programming investment as broadcasters have continued to believe that the most effective means of attracting greater rates is through increased audience levels and therefore the need to invest in programming is sustained.
