UK HAND TOOLS MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK hand tools market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

Following three consecutive years of strong declines, MBD believe that the downward trend in the total UK market for hand tools was reversed in 2006. The value of the sector is believed to have risen by a relatively significant 15% to £288 million during that year, with a further, albeit more moderate increase of 2% projected to take the value of the market to £292.9 million by the end of 2007.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

MBD believe that although the hand tools market in the UK is mature, the levels of consumption are expected to fluctuate quite strongly in real terms during the five year forecast period. By 2012, the market value is forecast to reach £246.7 million at 2007 prices, representing growth of a moderate 4% in real terms compared with the current year The sector is expected to continue to benefit from a buoyant construction market. However a stronger development in value terms is expected to be hindered by further growth of cheaper imports.
