RELEASED: OCTOBER 2006 After researching the UK food & service managment market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2002-2006: The UK market for food and service management demonstrated nominal overall growth of 5% between 2002 and 2005, despite a 1% decline in 2005. In the current year, MBD expect sales to increase by 3% to £3971 million. While the sector has benefited from the corporate sector continuing to concentrate on core activities, resulting in the contracting out of services such as catering, suppliers have also faced growing competition from other catering providers, particularly in city centres, which has hindered a stronger value development of the market. Furthermore, the food and service management industry is highly competitive, particularly in the business and industry sector, and margins are being squeezed to gain and maintain contracts. MARKET FORECAST 2007-2011: In 2011, MBD expect the food and service management market to reach £4042 million at 2006 prices, representing moderate growth of 2% compared with the current year. The modest development anticipated in the market is partly due to increased competition. Furthermore, the trend towards offering contract catering services and other ancillary as part of one facilities management contract, is also set to continue over the next few years, restricting a stronger development in the contract catering services sector.
