RELEASED: JUNE 2005 After researching the UK fibres market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004: The UK fibres market declined by a nominal 1% to £1153.5 million in 2004, continuing a declining trend in sales since 2001. Prior to that, a 16% increase was recorded in 2000. Demand for fibres has been weak during recent years reflecting the difficulties faced by the UK textile manufacturing industry and the continuing trend of relocating production to low cost countries. MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009: A moderate decline is anticipated in the UK fibres market over the next five years, with growth expected to be restricted by continued weak demand from UK textiles industries. Between 2004 and 2009, sales are expected to decline by 6% in real terms. A stronger decline in demand is expected in the short-term, reflecting the current economic slowdown and restrained levels of retail sales.
