UK EXPRESS DELIVERY MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK express delivery development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

The UK market for express delivery services has demonstrated a similar trend in volume and value terms during the five year review period, indicating a relatively stable price structure. Between 2003 and 2006, the market in value terms increased by a cumulative 21% to £4691 million in the latter year. Annual growth rates fluctuated between 6% and 7%. In volume terms nominal growth of 18% took the number of packages delivered to 1208.9 million in 2006. In the current year, the UK market for express delivery services is anticipated to demonstrate growth of 6% in both volume and value terms to £4967 million and 1284.7 million packages.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

MBD believe that the prospects for the sector will remain buoyant over the next few years. Although there has been some consolidation in the industry, MBD believe that supply will continue to outpace demand, despite the efforts of some retailers to consolidate contracts. This is likely to ensure that the pressure on prices remains a feature of the market. The value of the market is expected to increase at a marginally faster rate than the volume of the market during the forecast period. However, MBD believe that price pressures within the market will remain intense as a result of the continued high levels of competition within the industry, and between competing forms of distribution. Growth is likely to reflect greater use of guaranteed, particularly overnight, delivery options which continue to command a premium price.
