RELEASED: MARCH 2008 After researching the UK CCTV market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007: Sales and rental income of CCTV are believed to have demonstrated year-on-year growth between 2003 and 2007, with annual levels peaking at 7% during the first year under review. MBD believe much of the growth in the market has been driven by the switch from analogue to digital CCTV and networked video solutions. Demand for CCTV is estimated to have increased by 5% to £1162 million in 2007, consolidating the 5% increase recorded in the previous year. Overall, the value of the market is believed to have increased by 15%. This growth is partly a reflection of increased construction output in the non-residential construction sector during three of the five years under review, notably from public applications. Moreover, the commercial sector continues to provide growth opportunities for CCTV installations, as the trend of substituting manned security with CCTV remains a feature of the market. Other sectors that are also believed to continue to show strong growth potential include mobile CCTV systems, automatic number plate recognition systems and algorithmic systems. MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012: The value of the UK CCTV systems market (including sales and rental income) is anticipated to continue to increase throughout the forecast period, albeit at more moderate levels than evident during the review period. Annual levels of growth are expected to be maintained at 2% during 2008 and 2009, reflecting current economic uncertainty. However, stronger growth is projected during the latter three years, largely reflecting increased demand for public security generated by the London 2012 Olympics. In 2012, demand for CCTV systems is expected to reach £1316 million (at 2007 prices), representing a 3% increase in the year and overall real term growth of 13% compared with the latter year under review. Projected growth is partly reflects increased construction output in a number of non-residential sectors. Moreover, the need to tighten security in public areas is likely to boost demand from the Government, retail and transport sectors. Demand for digital and networked systems is expected to continue to be buoyant, although prices are anticipated to fall in these sectors. Further sectors of the CCTV market which are expected to show strong growth potential include remote monitoring services, rapid deployment cameras and alarm activated systems. However, intense price competition and increased import penetration from low cost manufacturers at the lower end of the market are expected to continue to be features of the CCTV market.
