UK ACCESS CONTROL MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

After researching the UK acccess control market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:

The value of the access control market (including sales and rental income) is believed to have increased during each year under review, with annual levels of growth peaking at 7% in 2004. In 2007, further growth of 7% took demand for access control systems to an estimated £664 million, equivalent to an overall cumulative 27% increase compared with 2003. The importance of the sector has also been increased in recent years, from 19% to 23% during the five year period. Access control has remained one of the most buoyant sectors of the security alarms and systems market during recent years, largely reflecting the development of more sophisticated and higher value systems. Furthermore, demand has been generated by the heightened perceived threat of terrorism, which has increased the focus on security in commercial and public buildings. Indeed, construction output in the private commercial sector has also been increased in recent year, facilitating growth in the sector. Insurance requirements have also become more stringent in recent years, increasing demand for access control equipment.

MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:

Demand for access control equipment and systems is anticipated to increase throughout each year of the forecast period, albeit at moderate annual levels, with growth not expected to exceed 3%. The value of the market is expected to increase by 3% in real terms to £761 million (at 2007 prices) in 2012, also equivalent to overall cumulative growth of 15% compared with the latest year of the review period. The market for access control is projected to continue to benefit from the trend towards integrated security systems evident during the latter half of the review period. Demand for IP based open-architecture systems, enabling the integration of access control with other security services is likely to continue.
